The Renderer application is the media playback component of PLAY. A single Renderer application instance is capable of running multiple outputs on a single piece of hardware — depending on specification — or running in concert with other application instances on multiple pieces of distributed hardware across a network.
Key responsibilities
-
Compiling media into a Cue and outputting to the specified Surfaces.
-
Managing outputs of Surfaces via SDI, NDI, GPU.
-
Managing mixing of all audio from content for output via ASIO or DirectSound/CoreAudio.
-
Ingesting external SDI or NDI feeds to allow advanced compositing with PV4 Surfaces.
-
Compositing multiple Inputs and Surfaces into new Virtual Surfaces with transform, scale, crop, color, and striping functionality to meet on-site delivery requirements.
-
Feeding back information to the Orchestrator over the network for current cue play time and status.
Key information
-
The Orchestrator application manages distribution of control commands to all Renderer application instances across its specific network, allowing for synchronized playback or full system redundancy.
-
The Renderer application works in conjunction with the Content Manager to maintain an updated local content library, ensuring up-to-date asset delivery.
-
Single or Multi Setup: The Renderer application is designed to run in concert with other renderers on the network. While a single renderer can run multiple surfaces, if performance issues are encountered on your selected hardware, Surfaces can be easily offloaded to another Renderer application on the network, with communication and synchronization managed by the Orchestrator.
-
Supported Codecs: The Renderer supports most major, or industry standard, codecs for audio, video, images, and fonts. Image Sequences are currently not supported. For a full list of supported codecs, or to check your use case, please contact pv4-support@rwsglobal.com.
-
Size Limitations: Maximum texture size is determined by your GPU.
-
Blended Outputs: Nvidia Mosaic and AMD EyeFinity are supported.
