Cues

Cues are the core playback instructions in PV4 — they drive content to the screen. Each cue is uniquely identified by a Cue Type and Cue Number, which combine to form its Cue Code (e.g., VT-1).

Cue modes

Cues are able to operate in three distinct modes, defined during programming in the PV4 Portal. Each mode has unique characteristics for playback operation.

Single Cue Mode

The most direct and traditional playback method, playing one cue to one surface as required.

Multi Cue Mode

Functions similarly to Single Cue Mode but triggers multiple cues simultaneously. These cues can be triggered on the same surface for layering effects, or across multiple surfaces for synchronized takeovers.

Sequence Cue Mode

  • A traditional cue list mode — sequences act as a container for multiple Single or Multi cues arranged in a defined order. When triggered, the Sequences tab displays:

    • Sequence name and cue number

    • List of cues with timing and HOLD/Continue states

    • End behaviour (e.g., go-to-black or loop)

    • Total time and time remaining indicators

    • Navigation and control options:

      • Clear, Next, Skip Next, Go To

      • Scroll controls for viewing active and upcoming cues

Cues library

The Cues Library is the centralized repository for all cues at the show level, and links to:

  • Templates (for layout and animation).

  • Surfaces (for output resolution).

  • Cue Types (for categorization and systemic behavior).

Select a Show via the Show Selector in the left-hand navigation panel, then access the Cues Library via the Cues tab. Cues are grouped by Cue Type and can be browsed and searched by Name, Number, Mode, and Creator.

Cue configuration

The Cue slide-out displays slightly different information based on the cue's selected mode.

Single Cue Mode

Optional tag for grouping or operator notes.

Play Scene

The initial scene triggered when the cue starts.

Length - Duration of the play scene.

End Behaviour - Action taken when the play scene ends (e.g., hold, clear).

Clear Scene

Scene triggered to clear the cue from the surface.

Length - Duration of the clear scene.

End Behaviour - Action after clear scene ends.

Total Length

Combined duration of all scenes in the cue.

Objects

List of objects contained within a cue's referenced template and their key values.

Multi Cue Mode

Cue Type

Dropdown field allowing you to select from all Cue Types available in your instance. In addition to the Cue Number, forms the Cue Code.
