Patching an Audio Input
At this time, the Audio Device In functionality in the PV4 Renderer is used exclusively for the Decibel Meter Template Editor object. Inputs must come from an external audio device.
Follow the steps below to configure an audio input device.
1. Navigate to the Audio Tab
Open the PV4 Renderer and go to the Audio tab.
This tab contains settings for audio input and output device configuration.
2. Enable or Disable Audio Device In
Find the Audio Device In section.
Use the toggle to switch the audio input on or off depending on whether you want to activate the audio input
3. Select the Audio Driver
Choose the appropriate driver type for your audio input device.
Examples may include ASIO, CoreAudio, or other platform‑specific drivers depending on the system.
4. Select the Audio Device
After selecting the driver, choose the specific audio device from the device dropdown.
5. Select the Audio Format
Choose the format for the audio input.
6. Set the Sample Rate
Select the sample rate for the audio input device.
This should match the output rate of the device being used to avoid artifacts or signal issues.
7. Adjust the Buffer Length (Optional)
If required, you can adjust the buffer length for the audio device.
PV4 sets this value to 0.1 seconds by default, which is suitable for most scenarios.
Patching an Audio Output
To configure an audio output device in the PV4 Renderer, follow the steps below. These settings determine how the renderer sends audio out to your chosen hardware device.
1. Navigate to the Audio Tab
Open the PV4 Renderer and go to the Audio tab.
This tab contains settings for audio input and output device configuration.
2. Select the Audio Driver
In the Audio Device Out section, choose the appropriate driver for your output device.
The PV4 Renderer currently supports:
-
DirectSound/CoreAudio (standard system audio drivers)
-
ASIO (specialised low‑latency audio driver)
Ensure that the selected driver matches the hardware device you intend to output audio to.
3. Select the Output Device
Below the driver selection, choose the specific output device from the dropdown.
This could be headphones, speakers, an audio interface, or any other connected output hardware.
4. Adjust the Buffer Length (Optional)
You may optionally adjust the buffer length for the output device.
PV4 sets this value to 0.2 seconds by default, which is typically stable for most systems.
Lowering the buffer can reduce latency but may increase the risk of audio glitches depending on system performance.
5. Set the Output Volume
Adjust the volume slider, which ranges from 0 to 1.
-
1 represents 100% output volume
-
0 represents no audio output
Choose a value appropriate to your show requirements and device sensitivity.
6. Adjust the Pan (If Required)
Set the pan value for the output device.
-
0 is hard left
-
1 is hard right
-
0.5 is the default centred position
