This guide explains how to create a Cue in the PV4 Portal. This guide assumes you're creating a Single cue (not a Multi or Sequence — see Creating a Multi Cue or Creating a Sequence Cue) and that the Cue Type, Surface, and Template you need already exist.
1. Creating the Cue
-
Log into the PV4 Portal and navigate to your current Show.
-
Select Cues in the left-hand navigation menu.
-
Navigate to the Cue Type where you want the Cue to be created.
-
Click the Create Cue button in the upper-right corner of the cue list.
-
Enter the initial cue properties:
-
Name – The name of the Cue.
-
Number – This must be unique within the selected Cue Type.
-
2. Set the Cue Mode
-
Set the Mode field to Cue.
-
The GUI will update to display Cue-specific fields.
-
3. Set the Template
-
In the Template field, search for and select the Template this Cue should use.
-
Templates are generally named after their use case — try searching a keyword like "HK", "Athlete", or "Video" if you're not sure which one you need.
-
If you're unsure which Template to use, check with the show programmer who created the show, or contact PV4 Support.
-
4. Change the Surface (if required)
-
Every Template has a default Surface. If this Cue needs to send to a different Surface, select it in the Surface field.
Object positions in PV4 are stored relative to the centre of the Surface, as a percentage of screen size rather than a fixed pixel value. This means an object positioned at the edge of a 1920px-wide Surface scales correctly onto a Surface of a different size, instead of being cropped or misplaced.
5. Configure the Exposed Objects
-
Any object the Template exposes to the Cue can be overwritten here. Common examples are the text shown in a housekeeping graphic, or the video played in a TVC.
-
For video objects, if the Template has default content set, the currently configured slot is shown; otherwise it shows "No content." Click it to open the Content Slot Selector and choose the video.
-
Press Save.
An empty text field is not the same as leaving a field unset. If you clear a field's contents without resetting it, you're overwriting the value to an empty string rather than falling back to what's defined on the Template — so a later change to the Template's default text won't come through on this Cue.
