Content Manager Application

The Content Manager application allows you to use PV4 and CONTENT's asset management workflows with any content display or playback system on the market. It connects directly to your PV4 Portal instance and manages local download of all content relevant to a specific show.

Key responsibilities

  • Downloading and locally storing all content subscribed to a specific show.

  • Automatically removing superseded or rejected content from on-site hardware, when enabled, to prevent out-of-date or incorrect content reaching your audience.

  • Working alongside any existing content display or playback system, without requiring changes to that infrastructure.

Key information

This makes the Content Manager application a strong fit for distributed signage networks, branded displays, or broadcast-driven workflows where media needs to be centrally managed and locally executed.

User interface

The Content Manager user interface is divided into two primary sections:

Download Queue

The Download Queue is a dynamically updating panel that provides real-time visibility into all content currently being downloaded. It displays key information such as:

  • File Name – The name of the asset being downloaded.

  • Download Progress – A live progress indicator showing current completion percentage and status.

This section allows users to monitor download activity at a glance and verify that subscribed content is being processed as expected.

Content Library

The Content Library presents a structured view of all content associated with the current show configuration. It includes dedicated columns for:

  • Name – Indicates which assets are subscribed to or required for the show.

  • Status – Displays whether each item is ready (downloaded), out of date, or in progress.

  • File Path – Shows the local directory location where each asset is stored.

This layout allows users to quickly confirm the availability, integrity, and destination of all content managed by the PV4 system.

Configuration

The Content Manager provides several configuration fields that allow users to tailor how content is retrieved, organized, and stored. These settings ensure the application operates correctly for the specific PV4 show environment.

Active

Indicates whether this configuration profile is enabled.

True – The application will use this configuration when running.

False – The configuration is ignored.

This allows multiple configurations to be created while only one is active at a time.

API URL & API Key

These two fields define how the application connects to your PV4 Portal instance.

API URL – The endpoint for accessing show content metadata.

API Key – Authentication token generated by the PV4 Portal for secure access.

These values must correlate to a specific PV4 Show to ensure the correct content library assets are accessed.

Region

The Region field indicates the deployment region of your PV4 Portal instance.

Content Folder

Defines the local directory where downloaded content will be stored. All subscribed content retrieved by the application is written to this location.

The application and executing user must have appropriate read/write permissions for this directory.

Show ID (Event ID)

Represents the Show ID found within the show information slide-out of the PV4 Portal.

This value tells the application which show to retrieve content for, ensuring that only assets subscribed to the selected event are downloaded.

Naming Mode

Determines how downloaded files are named on the local device. Two options are currently supported:

preserve – Retains the full original asset name exactly as defined in the PV4 Portal.

id – Names files using only the asset's unique PV4 asset ID, a fixed-length numerical string.

This allows workflows to choose between readability (preserve) and deterministic identifiers (id).

Structure Mode

Controls how downloaded content is organized within the local Content Folder.

flat – All downloaded content is placed directly into the root of the Content Folder. No subfolders or hierarchy are created.
